The BlackRainbow Group is fully committed to achieving Net Zero emissions by 2030. To that end, we are actively monitoring our ‘Baseline Emissions Footprint’.
Baseline emissions are a record of the greenhouse gases that have been produced in the past and were produced prior to the introduction of any strategies to reduce emissions. Baseline emissions are the reference point against which emissions reduction can be measured. BlackRainbow’s first year of measuring its emissions was 2022, therefore, that year will be used as the baseline for reporting.
Emissions Reduction Targets
In order to continue our progress toward achieving Net Zero, we have adopted the following carbon reduction targets. We project that carbon emissions will decrease over the next five years to 1.9 tCO2e by 2027. This is a reduction of 20%.
Due to the low levels of carbon being produced by BlackRainbow activities and the growth of the company, it may be necessary to purchase carbon offset credits to meet these targets. Also, as further emissions sources are included under scope 3, the total carbon output may increase and the targets may be revised.
Carbon Reduction Initiatives
This is the first year of reporting for BlackRainbow and sets the baseline. The intention is for BlackRainbow to expand the scope 3 emissions sources included within the carbon reduction plan. There are no completed carbon reduction initiatives to report on, however, BlackRainbow’s carbon footprint is already low due to the nature of the business.
The challenge will be to maintain a low carbon footprint as the business grows. In the future, we hope to implement further measures such as:
- Expanding the scope of emissions included within the carbon reduction plan;
- Encouragement of the take up of electric and hybrid vehicles and/or increased use of public transport;
- Encouragement of staff to move to renewable energy tariffs at home;
- Promoting the purchase of air travel tickets that have carbon offset as part of the cost.
Our ‘Carbon Reduction Plan’ has been reviewed and signed off by the board of directors and can be viewed here. If you’d like to know more about our current and proposed carbon reduction initiatives, please get in touch.
