International Women’s Day 2026
Date: 6 March 2026Author: Ffion KentRead Time: 2mins
As we celebrate International Women’s Day (IWD), we reflect on how far the movement has come since its beginnings in 1911. IWD continues to serve as a powerful global moment to elevate and amplify the conversation around women’s equality.
For some, this day is about advocating for women’s rights. For others, it’s about reinforcing key commitments or celebrating the achievements of women across all sectors. Whatever form this recognition takes, it matters, each action contributes to the global movement advancing women’s progress.
Women in Technology: The Work Still Ahead
Within the tech industry, a significant gender gap remains, with women representing only 26% of the workforce. This imbalance stems from many factors, and research consistently shows that closing the gender gap is not only about building a diverse and inclusive workplace, but it also starts much earlier. Encouraging and educating girls about STEM opportunities from a young age plays a crucial role in bridging this gap.
As part of our social values for 2026, we are committed to supporting charities and educational organisations that encourage girls to see a STEM career as not only possible but aligned with their strengths and aspirations.
We are also supporting the WinSOC network, created in 2025 for mentoring, coaching, developing, and supporting Women in Serious Organised Crime.
Equality Through Equity
Achieving equality requires embracing equity. Equity recognises that people of all genders have different circumstances and therefore may need different levels of support. By allocating resources based on these individual needs, we create more balanced opportunities and a fairer working environment where true equality can grow.
Understanding our own limitations, regardless of gender, can be a powerful step toward achieving our goals and ensuring we are seen, valued, and treated as equals.
Looking Ahead Together…
As we wrap up our IWD 2026 feature, we want to recognise what truly makes movements like this meaningful: the people behind the progress. The insights shared by women across BlackRainbow highlight not only the breadth of experience within our organisation, but the strength, honesty and ambition that drive us forward every day.
Thank you to everyone who contributed their stories, reflections and advice. These voices remind us why equity matters, why representation matters, and why continuing to challenge barriers, both inside and outside the workplace, is so important.
While IWD is one moment in the year, our commitment to supporting and empowering women is ongoing. Whether through our STEM-focused social values work, our support of the WinSOC network, or the everyday actions we take to build a fair and inclusive culture, we all play a part.
To the women of BlackRainbow: your impact is felt across every team, every project and every success we achieve together. Today, and every day, we celebrate you.
Let’s continue learning, supporting and lifting each other, because progress is something we create together.
